DOE’s Office of International Affairs partnered with Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEM) to convene a U.S.-Oman Technical Workshop on Geologic Hydrogen in Muscat, Oman, the Department of Energy announced on 29 September. With speakers on both sides from government, the private sector, and academic, the purpose of the workshop was to share information and ideas about geologic hydrogen and facilitate new policymaking, commercial, and academic partnerships between two countries on this topic. Additionally, workshop participants witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MEM and Eden , a DOE/ARPA-E awardee, regarding the exploration and production of geologic hydrogen in Oman.
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced in September up to $20 million in funding to develop technologies that can stimulate the generation of hydrogen within the subsurface at the lowest cost and environmental impact.
The funding is part of two Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) Exploratory Topics. The first—Exploratory Topic G: Production of Geologic Hydrogen Through Stimulated Mineralogical Processes. The second—Exploratory Topic H: Subsurface Engineering for Hydrogen Reservoir Management.
