OneH2 Purchases Clover, SC, Facility to Expand Hydrogen Generation Systems

Hydrogen fuel equipment and solutions company OneH2 recently purchased a new manufacturing facility in Clover, SC. The facility was sold by Belmont Land and Investment Company, LLC, and includes both the 246,091 sq ft building and the surrounding 29.705 acres of land. The facility will be used for scaling OneH2’s manufacturing output to meet its existing order book and expected demand over the next three years. The new manufacturing facility will stimulate the local economy by providing new, high-paying jobs in the community.

The facility is designed to manufacture H400 modular hydrogen production systems at scale, with dedicated lines for each sub-system – water treatment, steam methane reformation, gas purification, and compression. The Clover location is expected to hire a workforce that will reach 280 by January 2026. Projections indicate that by January 2026, the facility will produce over 100 units each of the H400 systems and ancillary equipment such as dispensers, hydrogen loading panels, and electricity generators.

This purchase comes as OneH2 continues to expand its infrastructure footprint across the country with new projects and partnerships. The company is expected to launch an exclusive Channel Partner program, a strategic distributor program providing select organizations direct access to OneH2’s specialized hydrogen equipment.

GM will supply Autocar with HYDROTEC fuel cells to electrify vocational vehicles, from cement mixers to terminal tractors

General Motors and Autocar Industries, LLC have signed a joint development agreement to create a range of zero tailpipe emissions vocational vehicles powered by GM’s HYDROTEC power cubes.

Hydrogen fuel cells are a key component of GM’s electrification strategy which extends beyond battery-powered passenger vehicles. Fuel cells combine hydrogen and oxygen to generate electricity through an electrochemical reaction. The fuel cell enables the conversion of energy stored in hydrogen into electricity to power a vehicle.

The first of these vehicles is expected to go into production in 2026 at the Autocar Truck Plant in Birmingham, Alabama. Vehicles with HYDROTEC technology will be built to order by Autocar and will be sold directly to customers. Cement mixers, roll-off and dump trucks, which all share a common architecture, will be built first, followed by refuse trucks and terminal tractors.

Each power cube contains more than 300 hydrogen fuel cells, along with thermal and power management systems and proprietary controls to fuel cell and battery life and performance while optimizing cold start capability. The HYDROTEC power cube provides 77 kilowatts of power and is much quieter than a conventional diesel propulsion system. Multiple power cubes can be arrayed in a vehicle for even higher power ratings.

Bacardi completed the world’s first commercial production of a glass spirits bottle fueled by hydrogen

Family-owned spirits company, Bacardi has successfully completed the world’s first commercial production of a glass spirits bottle fueled by hydrogen in a trial that took place earlier this month.

Bacardi worked with premium glassmaker, Hrastnik1860, to pioneer new technology that powered a glass furnace with hydrogen as its primary energy source and in doing so cut the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions typically produced as a byproduct of glass bottle production.

The bottle, which for the purposes of the trial was the iconic ST-GERMAIN® elderflower liqueur bottle, is identical in appearance to the bottle produced using traditional methods and will reach bars and stores in the coming weeks.

Over the course of the trial, which produced 150,000 of the brand’s 70cl glass bottles, hydrogen contributed more than 60% of the fuel for the glass furnace, cutting GHG emissions by more than 30%.

Marelli launches its new fuel system for hydrogen propulsion systems

Marelli presents its first hydrogen fuel system, including specific injectors with patented design and an advanced Engine Control Unit. This state-of-the-art solution is aimed at hydrogen engines, which are similar to traditional endothermic engines but use hydrogen as fuel, producing no CO2 emissions, thus representing an interesting option for eco-mobility. Based on the company’s expertise in the high-pressure direct injection technology, the new Marelli’s fuel system meets the strict requirements of these engines, ensuring precision, efficiency, performance, easy integration and complexity reduction.

As hydrogen is a very light and reactive gas, a very precise fuel injection inside the combustion chamber is required, together with specific solutions to avoid pre-ignitions and backfire. It also needs a higher compression ratio than common gasoline engines to exploit the fuel efficiently. This makes the direct injection system a key enabler for this technology.

HYPORT: the first green hydrogen production and distribution station in Europe has opened

HYPORT, owned by ENGIE Solutions (51%) and the Occitanie region’s Energy and Climate Agency (49%), unveils Europe’s first green hydrogen production, storage and distribution station at an airport. The aim being to decarbonize its ground-based activities.

With a production capacity of over 400 kilograms of carbon-free hydrogen a day, or the equivalent of one megawatt of high-power electrolysis, HYPORT’s electrolyser supplies two hydrogen charging stations. One is on the tarmac for airport shuttles, aircraft tractors, and the ground power units supplying electricity to aircraft when they are on the ground and not connected to a gangway. The other one, on the city side of the airport, can charge up to 20 buses or 200 light vehicles, particularly taxis, a day.

Based on site, the electrolyser is powered solely by local, renewable electricity. The charging station uses electricity from an agrivoltaic farm in Fanjeaux (80km from Toulouse) and SHEM hydroelectric dams in the Pyrenees, operated by ENGIE.

This success story is founded on the conviction, shared by ENGIE and the Occitanie region, that hydrogen has a key role to play in the energy transition, particularly by decarbonizing mobility.

This convergence of vision between the industrial and institutional sectors is at the origin of the project. It represents a total investment of 7.2 million euros and received funding from Ademe (the French agency for environmental transition), the European Union and the Occitanie region. It meets the government’s objective to promote future industries.
