Unimot Group: HVO fuel produced with hydrogen available for sale in March

From March 2024, Unimot Paliwa, a company within the Unimot Group, is expanding its fuel offer to include 100% HVO diesel. Its emissions allow for up to 94% CO2 reduction compared to traditional B0 diesel, the group announced.

HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a type of synthetic, renewable alternative fuel intended for diesel engines. It is obtained in modern refining processes – through hydrocracking or hydrogenation of vegetable oil or animal fats using hydrogen and catalysts under high temperature and pressure conditions.

“As an independent multi-energy capital group and a leader among independent importers of liquid and gaseous fuels in Poland, we continuously monitor the biofuels market and analyze innovative technologies to adapt our products to the current needs of transport-based economic sectors. Already in March, we are expanding our offer of low-emission fuels to include 100% HVO diesel oil, which fits into the implementation of decarbonization strategies of companies utilizing transportation services,” says Robert Brzozowski, Vice President of the Management Board for Commercial Affairs, Unimot.

The use of HVO becomes particularly significant in the context of market and regulatory requirements, such as the ‘Fit for 55’ package and the CSRD Directive. These regulations assume a reduction of CO2 emissions in the the European Union by at least 55% by 2030 and impose reporting obligations on companies regarding sustainable development. Furthermore, in the face of wide-scale limited availability of trucks with electric and hydrogen drives, the introduction of diesel fuel with the addition of HVO and 100% HVO diesel oil enables customers from the transportation sector to efficiently reduce carbon footprint of their activities, making it a practical and accessible solution in the current market realities.
