Coolergy S.L., Spain, and Aurora Engineering S.r.o., Czech Republic, announce their intention to merge to join forces in the development and promotion of hydrogen-powered rolling stock.
The development of hydrogen-related technologies for rail applications to replace diesel as a primary type of fuel is becoming increasingly essential in Europe and begets a serious challenge for Design & Engineering.
The Coolergy S.L. team has a wealth of experience in the development of cryogenic technologies for various types of transport, incl. for shunting locomotives and trucks. In addition, Coolergy S.L. creates the entire chain for its clients – from the production and liquefaction of hydrogen, through transportation of liquid hydrogen to consumption points, to cryogenic fuel systems for specific types of transport.
Aurora Engineering s.r.o. specializes in the development of different types of railway machinery and equipment, modernization and retrofitting of existing rolling stock.
Currently, both companies are working together to convert TGM4 diesel locomotives to hydrogen under a contract implemented in several Baltic countries.
The Locomotive Retrofit Project assumes the modernization of 12 locomotives and the construction of a hydrogen production and liquefaction plant with a capacity of up to 2 tons of liquid hydrogen per day.
The joint company plans to actively develop the modernization of 1520 gauge diesel locomotives in Finland, Ukraine and the Baltic states, and deliver new railway equipment, including railway ferries, fueled by liquid hydrogen.
The merger will make it possible to deliver a significant fleet of liquid hydrogen-powered locomotives in the nearest future and ensure zero emissions on the railways in Northern and Eastern Europe.
