Toyota has just announced that their pioneering hydrogen fuel cell Hilux pickup project has moved into its final phase.Ten prototype Hilux vehicles, built by Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK are hitting the roads with zero tailpipe emissions. To support this innovative initiative, Fuel Cell Systems has built and supplied the Hydrogen Refuelling Truck – a mobile refuelling station that ensures seamless and efficient refuelling for these revolutionising vehicles, the company announced.
Our collaboration with Toyota marks a significant milestone in advancing hydrogen technology. With five vehicles undergoing rigorous field testing and five others engaged in customer and public showcases, including at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, this project marks a major step towards a zero-carbon future.
The fuel cell Hilux demonstrates Toyota’s dedication to sustainability. With an impressive driving range of up to 600 kilometres and enhanced payload and towing capabilities, this prototype is set to transform the pickup market. The launch of Toyota’s Hydrogen Factory Europe and their strategic approach to hydrogen commercialisation highlight the promising future of hydrogen in Europe. By 2030, Toyota anticipates Europe to be a leading market for hydrogen fuel cells, driving growth in mobility and power generation applications.
