First conclusive tests of the 100 kW Hopium fuel cell

HOPIUM, the cleantech company aiming to decarbonise heavy transport, has announced the successful completion of initial tests on its 100 kW fuel cell. Preliminary characterisation tests – on sealing, electrode polarisation and physical dimensions – were carried out without a hitch, confirming the results obtained by the digital twins developed upstream by Hopium.

As a result, the fuel cell (stack) meets the compactness criteria Hopium had set itself, i.e. a weight of 30 kg (including end plates and clamping system) and a cell thickness (bipolar plates + membranes) of less than 1 mm.

These initial encouraging results have enabled Hopium to confirm its development timetable, with the results of bench testing of its battery to be announced before the end of July (TRL6), road tests under real conditions in autumn 2024 and the first batteries to be marketed in early 2025.
