Robert Habeck gave the official start to two PCEI hydrogen projects in Hamburg

«Together with Senator Dr Melanie Leonhard and Senator Jens Kerstan, Federal Minister Robert Habeck today gave the official go-ahead for two PCEI hydrogen projects in Hamburg:

A 100 MW electrolyser is being built at the Moorburg coal-fired power plant site. Over 9,000 tonnes of green hydrogen can be produced each year.

In addition, 40 kilometres of hydrogen pipeline will be built to connect hydrogen producers and consumers and connect Hamburg to the hydrogen core network.

Green hydrogen is the key to further reducing emissions in the energy supply and in important branches of industry in the future and to driving forward the transformation of the German economy.

Large quantities of hydrogen will be needed in the future. To meet this demand, we need to create the production capacity in Germany – as with the new electrolyser in Hamburg. Hydrogen will also be imported.

A comprehensive infrastructure will be created to ensure that the hydrogen arrives where it is needed. By 2032, a hydrogen core network around 9,700 kilometres long is to be built across Germany.

With the IPCEI funding, the federal and state governments are making the two projects in Hamburg possible».
