Nikkiso Clean Energy developed the first-of-its-kind submerged ammonia pump

Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases developed a first-of-its-kind submerged ammonia pump to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient handling of ammonia at the production plants and import/export terminals, critical to meeting future demand, the company announced.

Game-changing advantages include:

• Enhanced safety: Seal-less design eliminates the risk of leakage during operation.

• Extended operational lifespan: Features such as fewer moving parts and more effective cooling through direct liquid immersion significantly reduce downtime relative to external motor pumps.

• Compact: Integration of the motor and pump minimizes external power cables and nitrogen purging requirements, conserving space and enhancing safety.

• Streamlined installation: Integrated motor-pump assembly also allows cranes to handle a single, compact unit, simplifying installation relative to other pump types.

Already a key ingredient in the fertilizers that sustain global food production, ammonia is emerging as a critical hydrogen carrier and low-carbon fuel option for shipping, the company stated.
