As a new member of the TULIPS Green Airports consortium, France-based GSE supplier TLD has now formally joined the project to develop a hydrogen-powered tow tractor with Ballard Power Systems. Using an existing 17t vehicle platform, TLD will utilize Ballard’s FCmove®-HD+ hydrogen fuel cell engine, providing 100kW of electric power, enough to execute everyday movements of wide-body aircraft, like the Boeing 777, on the airport’s apron.
Emblematic of TULIPS’ ambition to lead the way in facilitating zero emissions airside operations , the TLD/Ballard H2-tow tractor aims to play a vital role in reducing ground equipment-caused greenhouse gas emissions , thus contributing to lower overall scope 1 and scope 2 airport emissions.
The demonstration and assessment of the tow tractor’s operational capacities are expected to take place at Schiphol Airport in the summer of 2025.
