DEUTZ put into operation the first power generators in Beijing that generate electricity using the hydrogen combustion engine developed by DEUTZ, the company said. At the same time, contracts were signed for a joint venture between DEUTZ and the Zhongguancun Summit Enviro-Protection State Innovation Zone (ZGC), which will drive forward the further distribution of the hydrogen power generators – H2 gensets for short. The ceremony was attended by DEUTZ CEO Dr. Sebastian C. Schulte, the Lord Mayor of Cologne, Henriette Reker, and the Vice Mayor of Beijing, Jin Wei.
In 2023, DEUTZ accepted the order to supply 100 H2 gensets to ZGC – known as the “Silicon Valley of China” – and shortly afterwards the first series-produced TCG 7.8.H2 rolled off the assembly line at the Cologne plant. In China, the H2 gensets are to be used in the immediate vicinity of coking plants and will initially generate electricity from the gray hydrogen produced there. Each power generator can already save up to 800 tons of CO2 per year. At the same time, the H2 gensets can be operated climate-neutrally with green hydrogen at a later stage.
