This milestone positions FCAB as the first freight transport company in South America to use hydrogen-powered locomotives.
The locomotive was presented to the community at Ferrocarril de Antofagasta in an activity led by the Executive President of Antofagasta plc, Iván Arriagada, and also attended by regional and local authorities. The locomotive, developed by AHTECH CRRC Qishuyan Company, was specifically designed for FCAB’s operational routes and complies with the principles of standardization, modularization, serialization and generalization, ensuring its adaptability and efficiency. In its first phase, the machine will make a trip from the FCAB facilities in the city to the port and will be used in internal maneuvers.
Characteristics
With a total power of 1000 kilowatts, the locomotive is equipped with a high-capacity battery and a 35 MPa on-board hydrogen storage system. In addition, it has a lightweight design, which reduces weight by approximately 30 tons compared to current hydrogen locomotives.
