Gasgrid has announced an updated route plan based on the first route plan published in April 2024. The update is based on signals from market operators on hydrogen production and consumption, planned and under construction wind power generation, the electricity grid, CO2 production, and existing methane and rail networks and ports. The combined impact of all these is relevant for electricity consumption, for example.
Feedback from all municipalities along the route of the national hydrogen pipeline published in April has been taken into account as far as possible in the route plan.
The planned route will run along the west coast from Sea Lapland towards Southern Finland, initially in areas with significant potential for hydrogen production and/or use, for example in industry and transport. The route plan has considered the geographical need for hydrogen transmission, which will allow for large-scale utilisation of hydrogen production and market scaling.
