North Ammonia and Fjord Base Holding join forces for the development of a green ammonia production facility

North Ammonia AS and Fjord Base Holding AS join forces for the develpoment of a green ammonia production facility with focus on development of required infrastructure, grid connection, permitting and early phase project development for a potential facility at Fjord Base, the North Ammonia AS  announced.

«Fjord Base is a highly suitable location for production of green ammonia based on existing industrial areas, infrastructure and maritime activity. The market for green ammonia is continuously developing and with stricter regualtions related to emissions, particularly in the maritime sector, it is expected that the demand for zero-emission fuels will increase significantly from 2030», says CEO of North Ammonia, Mikkel Tørud.

«It is with great pleasure that we see the plans for the establishment of North Ammonia at Fjord Base taking shaping and steps towards realisation. Fjord Base has significant maritime activity, and access to locally produced green fuels for shipping wil strengthen our position as a maritime hub, while providing positive ripple effects locally in terms of job creation. Production of green ammonia will create a foundation for circular economy value chains and thereby strengthen Fjord Base as a leading industrial cluster in the green transition», says CEO of Fjord Base Gruppen, Ole Schanke Eikum.

North Ammonia AS and Fjord Base Holding AS entered into a Letter of Intent in 2022 to evaluate the opportunity of establishing a green ammonia production facility at Fjord Base. Earlier this year, the project was assessed as mature by Linja and Statnett and is now in que for a reservation of grid capacity.

«This region offers significant surplus of power, and it is therefore of high importance that the grid is systematically developed further to enable the establishment of new and sustainable industries», adds Mikkel Tørud.
