HOPIUM launches testing of the complete 200 kW marine version fuel cell system

HOPIUM, the cleantech company aiming to decarbonise heavy transport, announces the launch of bench testing of the complete 200 kW (2 x 100 kW) marine version of its fuel cell system.

Following the initial trials of two 100 kW fuel cells in series, carried out at the start of 2025 HOPIUM’s teams have finalised the development and assembly of the complete system capable of generating the 200 kW power required to propel medium-sized boats (10 to 15 metres), designed to initiate the use of HOPIUM systems in a marine environment, in partnership with K-Challenge.

Ramping up from niche markets to heavy transport applications

In line with its business plan, HOPIUM is now starting to test its complete 200 kW fuel cell system on the test bench. Hopium is pursuing its strategy of initially targeting niche markets

(aerospace, maritime), which are more tolerant of current fuel cell prices, before moving on to small production runs, in order to be in a position by 2028-2030 to offer a competitive alternative to diesel for the heavy transport market (HGVs, long-distance coaches, high service level buses, construction equipment, etc.).
