New hydrogen fuel cell truck at Wiedmann and Winz from the end of 2026

Wiedmann & Winz is one of five companies worldwide testing the hydrogen fuel cell truck GenH2 from Daimler Truck. But this is just the beginning: we will also be involved in Daimler’s upcoming ‘Pegasus’ hydrogen project with 100 heavy-duty trucks.

‘Customers who want to be at the forefront of the drive revolution will be able to test the future of road freight transport with us from the end of 2026,’ says Dr Micha Lege, Managing Director of Wiedmann & Winz. The background to this is Daimler Truck’s future project for hydrogen-powered lorries. With the ‘Pegasus’ project, the Swabians are planning to put a total of 100 fuel cell trucks with the new generation of fuel cells from Cellcentric on the road. The project is being subsidised with 50 million euros as part of the IPCEI funding from the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate as well as the federal government.

Naturally, we want to operate some of the lorries in this future-oriented project and make them available to our customers. We know that: More and more companies want sustainable transport alternatives. This is because they reduce indirect emissions along the value chain and help to achieve the Scope 3 targets.

Wiedmann & Winz will therefore continue to use HVO diesel trucks (up to 90 per cent lower CO2 emissions), vehicles with battery-electric drives or hydrogen-powered trucks in future, depending on customer requirements.

Meanwhile, Wiedmann & Winz has had very positive experiences with the GenH2 hydrogen fuel cell truck from Daimler Truck, which is close to series production. ‘The GenH2 is very stable and has never let us down,’ says Micha Lege enthusiastically about the vehicle, which has been in use in a pilot project for port operator DP World since July 2024. But that’s not all: ‘Ranges of more than 1,000 kilometres are possible with the GenH2. What’s more, refuelling only takes around 15 minutes,’ says Micha Lege. There are also no restrictions on the payload. ‘The 40-tonne truck can carry a payload of 25 tonnes, so the GenH2 is on a par with a diesel truck in many respects.’
