The leaders of the Syndicat Mixte Charente-Atlantique and IPMD, the French distributor of dynaCERT, officially inaugurated the installation of the first HydraGEN device on the port infrastructure cranes.
HydraGEN is an innovative solution for on-demand hydrogen production using electrolysis, combined with diesel engines. Hydrogen is incorporated into the air intake while the engine is running, thus eliminating the need for storage or pressurized systems.
HydraGEN reduces CO2 emissions and other pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, fine particles, and unburned hydrocarbons, improving air quality on the port site and surrounding areas, as the port is located near the historic city center.
“With this choice, we are reducing our environmental footprint and saving fuel. The port, thus becoming more competitive, is looking to the future,” explained Gérard Pons, President of the Rochefort-Tonnay-Charente Commercial Port Joint Association.
Rémi Justinien, Vice-President of the Region responsible for the maritime economy, tourism, and the territorial economy, was present to reaffirm the support of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region for the innovative and committed approach of the Rochefort-Tonnay-Charente Port.
The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region has supported the preliminary measures and will finance the investment required to equip the port’s five cranes.
Comparative gas emission measurements during routine crane operations without and with HydraGEN, carried out prior to the installations, showed the following emission reductions:
-20% CO2
-33% carbon monoxide (CO)
-20% NOx (Nitrogen Oxides)
-45% fine particles.
