De Heus Voeders is taking an important step towards a sustainable future in transport with the purchase of its first hydrogen truck. This innovative truck with a hydrogen combustion engine offers a completely CO2-free alternative to diesel transport, without compromising performance or comfort. Delivery is scheduled for 2026, after which the truck will be extensively tested.
To truly drive green, De Heus has opted for hydrogen produced using sustainable energy. To achieve this, the company is working closely with Fieten Olie in Steenwijk, which will build a new hydrogen filling station.
De Heus, together with Fieten Olie and other transport companies, has formed a consortium to participate in the SWIM scheme. On September 16, 2025, the subsidy was officially awarded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl). The subsidy supports the construction of the hydrogen refueling station in Steenwijk and the purchase of hydrogen vehicles, including trucks and vans. Fieten Olie will be responsible for the construction of the refueling station, while MAN will deliver the first hydrogen truck to De Heus in early 2027.
De Heus deliberately opted for a MAN truck with a hydrogen combustion engine. This technology combines the familiar driving experience of diesel with the advantages of virtually emission-free driving. Thanks to the comparable power and driving characteristics, adjustments to planning or logistics are not necessary. Moreover, driver comfort is maintained thanks to a well-equipped cabin.
