SFC Energy AG, TEST-FUCHS GmbH, Auto AG Group start serial production of the H₂Genset

SFC Energy AG , a leading supplier of hydrogen and methanol fuel cells for stationary and mobile hybrid power solutions, TEST-FUCHS GmbH from Austria and the Auto AG Group from Switzerland, are transferring the latest generation of the emission-free mobile hydrogen generator H₂Genset into serial production after a successful market test phase consisting of extensive field tests e.g. by construction companies, telecommunications provider or festival operators, the SFC Energy announced.

The latest generation offers an improved user interface, simplifying the operation and (cloud-based) monitoring from a user perspective. A unique selling point is the possibility of refuelling the integrated tanks of the H₂Genset at hydrogen filling stations. The successful CE certification proves the conformity of the product with the applicable European directives and standards and thus paves the way for a broad market entry of the H₂Genset in Europe. Only in April 2022, SFC Energy, TEST-FUCHS and Auto AG Group signed a cooperation partnership for the joint development of the H₂Genset. Accordingly, it took just 24 months from the initial idea to serial production readiness. The trailer-mounted power generator produces reliable and emission-free energy and is designed for 10 kW nominal and 28 kW peak output.

BASF: First “stacks” delivered for water electrolyzer in Ludwigshafen

The modules known as “stacks” could be said to make up the heart of the electrolyzer. They are currently arriving at the project site in Ludwigshafen almost daily by heavy lorries, and the first of them have already been installed, the BASF reported. These modules, produced by Siemens Energy, are where the actual electrolysis process – the splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen – takes place. As the electricity used comes from renewable sources, the climate-friendly hydrogen produced can be used to manufacture products with a reduced carbon footprint.

When completed, the electrolyzer will comprise a total of 72 “stacks” with an installed power demand of 54 megawatts. Water and gas pipes connect the individual stacks to other components such as heat exchangers, gas separators and rectifiers. The finished system will have a capacity of up to 8,000 metric tons of hydrogen per year and reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions at the site by up to 72,000 metric tons.

Germany’s first authorised green hydrogen comes from slurry and manure

The dream of green hydrogen for the energy transition in Germany is running slowly – but at least the rules have been legally defined since 14 March. There is still no certification for electrolysis plants, but bio-hydrogen has simply adopted the regulations for biomethane. Just four days after the decision was taken, the first green hydrogen was approved under the new rules at the Schleupen family’s Lefkeshof farm in Krefeld, the BtX energy GmbH announced.

BtX energy successfully completed the REDcert-EU audit within 4 days of the BImSchV decision(The Ordinance on Small and Medium-Sized Combustion Plants). The REDcert GmbH system is one of the leading and legally recognised certification systems for sustainable fuels. The CO2 balance is determined and then checked for correctness during the audit. The first green hydrogen approved for quota trading in Germany was approved by Carmen Jeddeloh, Managing Director of Normec Zertifizierung Umweltgutachter GmbH.

Belgian first with green hydrogen boiler in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges

In collaboration with Imtech, Remeha and Solencopower, a pilot project has been launched at one of the port’s buildings with a boiler running entirely on green hydrogen to demonstrate the feasibility of this climate-neutral technology, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges stated. It is the first time such a boiler has been used in Belgium for a workshop of this size.

One of the workshops of the NOC (Nautical Operational Cluster) – the operational nerve centre of Port of Antwerp Bruges – will be heated via a hydrogen boiler running on 100% green hydrogen, making it climate-neutral. The use of this type of boiler for such a building is a first in Belgium. The Schildershal workshop (‘Painters’ Hall), is 1430 m³ in size and is used, among other things, for painting infrastructure such as components of locks. The project, conceived in late 2019, is a collaboration between Imtech (contractor), Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Tractebel (design team), Remeha (boiler manufacturer) and Solencopower(manufacturer).
